Orlando’s Simin Feng ended a winless drought of more than two years in comeback style, overcoming a four-shot deficit on the final day to capture the AJGA Girls Championship last weekend at Greenville, S.C.
Feng closed with a 6-under-par 66 at Furman Golf Club, allowing her to move past four rivals for a two-stroke victory over Ashlan Ramsey of Millidgeville, Ga.
“It’s a great honor to win an event like this, and I feel like I’m finally back,” Feng told an AJGA liaison. The China native notched AJGA victories each year from 2007-10, but came away empty last year as she underwent a swing change.
Feng recorded five birdies in her final round, including one at No.16 that overcame a bogey one hole earlier and set her on the path to victory.
“My best birdie was No. 16,” she said. “I made my only bogey on the hole before, so it was good to make a comeback.”
Feng, who attends Windermere Prep, moved up to No.35 in the AJGA’s newest rankings. She also had a pair of runner-up finishes earlier this summer.
